Rapid DNA Act of 2017 (HR 510 / S 139, 115th Congress)

The Policy

What it does

Establishes a system for integration of Rapid DNA instruments for use by law enforcement to reduce violent crime and reduce the current DNA analysis backlog.

HR 510 and S 139 would implement the use of Rapid DNA instruments to inform decisions about pretrial release or detention and their conditions, to solve and prevent violent crimes and other crimes, to exonerate the innocent, and to prevent DNA analysis backlogs. These bills are textually identical both to each other, and to the Rapid DNA Act of 2016 (S 2348, 114th Congress) (SciPol brief available.)
