The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking a Senior Board Director to manage and develop the activities of the Space Studies Board and the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board.


 Senior Board Directors are in the position to significantly impact the advancement of science and science policy through programs including consensus studies, workshops, international research coordination, and outreach activities. The key responsibility of a senior board director is to develop a balanced, high-quality portfolio of projects and to oversee the management of these activities. Senior board directors prepare proposals, oversee the financial management of the units and projects, and work directly with sponsors to formulate projects and negotiate funding. Senior board directors also oversee all aspects of the study process including committee member selection, report review, and report release. Applicants should be able to effectively manage and mentor employees as well as cultivate a work environment that fosters teamwork.


The ideal candidate should have a minimum of twelve years of related professional experience (in fields such as space science, aeronautics, physics, etc.), and a history of effectively advancing science or science policy.
