The Manager, Public Affairs (Corporate Giving), role is responsible for ensuring the overall coordination of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative activities and deliverables in the U.S. South, including developing and implementing project activities across multiple internal functions and external stakeholders. The Gilead COMPASS Initiative is a broad initiative across a number of disciplines and sectors focused on addressing HIV/AIDS-related disparities in the Southern United States. A major component of this initiative is the COMPASS Corporate Giving Program, which will provide significant, multi-year grants to key partners working in the region to advance outcomes in line with the program goals.

Essential Duties and Job Functions

  • Oversee all grant agreements, reporting requirements and financial stewardship of primary grantees
  • Plan and execute regular grants monitoring calls/meetings in synergy with reporting cycles, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies
  • Serve as primary contact for primary grantees and conduct regular site visits with primary grantees
  • Organize and manage logistics for regular meetings, including preparation of agendas, summative reports on project progress and meeting minutes
  • Establish and manage accurate, timely and complete records process and ensures proper fiscal and impact reporting
  • Build and maintain appropriate professional relationships with primary grantees to help ensure program activities and sub-grants are in accord with program goals
  • In collaboration with Corporate Communications function, develop and implement communications strategy and tactics for the initiative, ensuring proper and accurate dissemination of program goals, objectives, activities and impact to internal and external stakeholders
  • Select and oversee third party independent evaluator for the COMPASS grants program, including developing an initial evaluation plan for the collection of baseline data
  • In collaboration with third party program evaluator, compile and analyze a variety of complex data and information, and summarize findings in written reports, infographics and other communication media
  • Responsible for ongoing coordination and engagement in the activities in-house of the COMPASS Initiative Governance Committee
  • Responsible for collecting data across Corporate & Medical Affairs related to the COMPASS Initiative

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

 

  • Typically requires a Master’s degree in corporate giving, public health and/or policy, or business field and minimum 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and best practices specific to grants management, specifically within pharmaceutical industry
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working collaboratively, yet in a leadership role, with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required
  • Ability to navigate large, matrixed corporate environment is essential
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple competing priorities is essential
  • Strong decision-making skills and professional maturity is essential
  • Ability to engage multiple internal and external stakeholders, and synthesize interests and priorities into project planning and management
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using a number of office software such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc., is ideal
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit a high level of personal integrity and teamwork consistent with Gilead’s core values
