This position will report to the Director of Agency-Wide Environmental Policy and Compliance and provide assistance in assessing a range of environmental policy and compliance issues as well as provide support for the MTA energy efficiency program. Both programs, environmental and energy-efficiency, are performed in support of, and in conjunction with, MTA operating agencies. 

 

Responsibilities

 
 
Manage annual State Agency Environmental Audit, as required by New York State Environmental Conservation Law, assessing MTA operating agency compliance with approximately 111 environmental regulations.

Manage annual Diesel Emissions Reduction Act compliance report as required by New York State Environmental Conservation Law.

Manage progress and compliance with Governor’s Executive Order 88, directing state agencies and authorities to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use by 20% by 2020.

Manage MTA Demand Reduction Program, providing stability to the electric grid during periods of high demand and generating income for MTA operating agencies who are paid, by utilities and the grid operator, for their demand reductions.

Manage annual Storm Water compliance report as required by New York State Environmental Conservation Law.

Research and analyze current and proposed environmental regulations for their impact on MTA operations.

Assist in development, management and execution of energy efficiency projects throughout the MTA.

Assist in identifying potential new energy efficiency projects.

Assist with site assessments and feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects. 

Analyze energy and cost data relating to ongoing and proposed energy efficiency projects. 

Prepare presentations, memos, and reports.

Represent MTA on multi-agency committees and task forces, such as West Nile Virus/Zika Task Force and Rodent Control Task Force. 

Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, manage grants and project budgets

Perform other duties as required to function as part of the team in carrying out the overall effort and mission of the MTA.

 

Qualifications

 
 
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

General knowledge of and demonstrated interest in environmental compliance and policies.

General knowledge of and demonstrated interest in energy efficiency and energy policy.

Good database and data management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) and other analytical and communications tools.

Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.

Ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate with other units and agencies.

Ability to work and deliver under demanding timelines.

Knowledge of environmental policy, and energy concepts.
